然而，嫦娥的幸福生活并没有持续太久。有一天，天帝发现了嫦娥的美貌和聪明，他便派遣了一个名叫后羿的弓箭手前往月宫，企图将嫦娥抓走。嫦娥非常害怕，她不想被后羿带走。于是，她便吃下了月宫里的一颗不死药，然后变成了一只兔子，逃跑了出去。后羿追赶了嫦娥很长时间，但是最终还是没有抓住她。

从此以后，嫦娥就一直生活在月亮上，化身成一只美丽的玉兔，与月亮一起在天空中徘徊。每到中秋之夜，人们就会欣赏到嫦娥和兔子的形象，这也成为了中秋节最重要的传统之一。
